Chapter_38
Vincent nodded immediately, recognizing the weight of Ronan’s words. “Understood, Mr. Potter. I’ll find out who the father is.”
Ronan’s gaze remained distant, his thoughts a tangled web of frustration and curiosity. Sadie had always been an enigma to him, but now, with these three children in the picture, the puzzle was even more complex. He couldn’t help but wonder about the circumstances that had led to her raising them on her own. What had happened between them that made her so determined to keep him and his family at a distance?
His mind wandered back to the past—before everything fell apart. Before the pressures of family and duty had driven a wedge between them. He had never intended to hurt her. He had never imagined she would leave Newark, let alone build a life without him. But she had. And now, years later, the reality of her independence, her strength, and her new family was something he couldn’t ignore.
“Mr. Potter,” Vincent spoke again, breaking through Ronan’s reverie. “I’ll get the information you requested as soon as possible.”
Ronan’s lips pressed into a tight line. “Make sure it’s discreet,” he muttered, his mind already spinning with the possible outcomes of discovering who Sadie had been with. The thought of another man being involved in her life was like a sharp needle to his chest.
But the truth of the matter was, he had no right to be jealous, no right to demand answers. He had chosen his path years ago. He had married Leah, and that choice had led to his son and the life he now led. Yet, as he stood there, watching Sadie walk away from him once more, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had made a mistake—a mistake that might cost him more than he could ever make up for.
Sadie, for her part, kept her face impassive as she walked away from Ronan, her heart heavy. Every step she took was a small victory over the memories that threatened to overwhelm her. She had finally told him everything she needed to say—no more false hope, no more lingering attachments. She had built a life for herself and her children, and she didn’t need Ronan’s charity or interference.
But even as she walked away, she felt the weight of his gaze on her, a reminder that some part of her heart was still tied to the past. A part that she had buried long ago, but which seemed to resurface every time they were near each other.
Her thoughts turned back to her children, to the world she had built for them. They were her priority, her reason for everything. She couldn’t afford to let the past come back into her life. Not now. Not when she had worked so hard to protect them from the mistakes of their parents.
As she reached the school gates, she spotted the triplets waiting for her, their faces brightening when they saw her. Despite everything that had happened, they were her solace. They were the future she had fought for.
“Mommy!” Noah called out, running towards her with Nathan and Mia right behind him.
Sadie’s heart softened as she knelt down to hug them, their little arms wrapping around her. “I’m here,” she whispered, holding them close. “Let’s go home.”
As they walked together, Sadie glanced back one last time at the school. She couldn’t erase the past, but she had the strength to face the future. With her children by her side, she was ready to leave the past behind and build a new life—one that was free from the shadows of old wounds.
Ronan’s presence would always be a part of her, but it no longer held power over her. She had moved on. She had to. For them. For herself.
