Chapter_23
Sadie’s mind raced as the words “someone got killed” echoed in her head. Panic clawed at her chest as the thought of the “Toy Boy in Debt” being in danger consumed her. She had been so focused on the money, on getting her share of the profit, that she hadn’t considered the consequences of her actions. Now, it seemed like everything was spiraling out of control.
Her heart pounded as she looked around the nightclub. The empty private room, the clean-up crew, the eerie absence of the usual lavish decor—all of it felt wrong. She could barely comprehend the gravity of the situation. Had something truly gone wrong last night? Could the wealthy women have been responsible? And if so, what had happened to him?
Sadie pulled herself together, her breath shallow but determined. She couldn’t let her fear take over. She needed answers.
“Where is he?” Sadie murmured to herself, clutching her phone. But she had already called him multiple times with no response, and there was no sign of him anywhere in the club. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible had happened, and she had been too naive to see it coming.
The waitress, still eyeing Sadie cautiously, spoke again, her voice low. “You should get out of here. The manager’s already suspicious of you.”
Sadie nodded quickly, her head swimming with thoughts of the bloodstains on the carpet, the missing furniture, and the unease in the air. She needed to get out, but the question lingered in her mind: Was it too late to fix things? Was the man she had treated like a commodity already gone?
She ran through the possibilities in her mind—she couldn’t just walk away. Not now. She owed him, didn’t she? Despite everything, there was a part of her that couldn’t ignore the guilt eating away at her. The thought of her children, growing up without knowing their father, crushed her heart.
“Hey, wait,” Sadie called after the waitress as she turned to leave. “Do you know if he’s… I mean, where did he go after last night? Is he alive?”
The waitress paused for a moment, glancing back at Sadie with a look of hesitation. “I don’t know. No one’s seen him since the night before last, but I heard some of the women left in a hurry yesterday. You know, after the… incident.”
Sadie’s stomach lurched. She couldn’t sit back and wait anymore. Her entire body screamed at her to act—to find him, to apologize, to make things right. She pushed through the door and into the night air, trying to ignore the cold fear gnawing at her insides.
Her thoughts were a blur, but there was one thing she was certain of now: She couldn’t let her mistakes define the rest of her life. She had to find him, and she had to know the truth—before it was too late.
