Chapter_79
Sadie’s eyes widened in surprise as she caught sight of herself in the mirror. The reflection before her was almost unrecognizable. Her usual soft, unassuming appearance had been transformed into something entirely more striking—her features had been enhanced, the makeup was subtle yet sophisticated, and her hair was styled in elegant waves that framed her face beautifully. She couldn’t help but gasp at the sight.
“Is that really me?” she asked, her voice filled with awe.
The stylist beside her smiled, “Yes, Miss Roth, this is you. The designers did an exceptional job. We aimed for a refined, powerful look while keeping your natural beauty intact.”
Sadie reached up, gently touching her face, still trying to reconcile this more glamorous version of herself with the person she knew herself to be. She looked stunning, but there was a part of her that felt a little uncomfortable with the transformation.
Before she could voice her mixed feelings, she suddenly remembered something. A small gasp escaped her lips as she turned toward Dahlia, “Wait—how long has Micah been here?”
Dahlia, still attending to a few last-minute touches, looked over at Micah and then back at Sadie. “He’s been here for a while, Miss Roth. He came in shortly after you fell asleep.”
Sadie’s heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t noticed Micah’s presence, but there he was, sitting calmly across the room. His sharp, piercing gaze was now fixed on her, as he observed her every movement.
Micah leaned forward slightly, his expression unreadable, though his gaze softened just a fraction as it met hers. “You look… different,” he said, his voice low and steady, a hint of approval in his tone.
Sadie’s breath caught. Her pulse quickened in reaction to the way his eyes lingered on her. It was as if she could feel the weight of his attention, and it made her feel vulnerable and yet oddly empowered at the same time.
“I didn’t expect… this,” Sadie finally said, her voice faltering slightly. She felt self-conscious and didn’t quite know what to make of Micah’s intense gaze. It was both comforting and unnerving. “I’m not used to being like this.”
“You should get used to it,” Micah replied, his gaze unwavering. “People will take you more seriously when they see the strength in your appearance, just as much as in your actions.”
Sadie’s heart fluttered in her chest. She wasn’t sure how to respond. Part of her wanted to dismiss his words as flattery, but another part of her couldn’t deny that there was some truth to them.
Before she could say anything more, the stylist stepped back and gently patted her shoulder. “All done, Miss Roth.”
Sadie stood up and walked over to the full-length mirror. The transformation was more than just physical; she could see a more confident version of herself staring back. It felt strange, but the more she looked at her reflection, the more she could imagine herself stepping into this new role.
Dahlia, noticing the shift in Sadie’s demeanor, smiled softly. “You look perfect, Miss Roth. Micah will be proud.”
Sadie nodded absently, her mind still spinning with everything that had happened. She had come here today expecting a simple makeover, but now she was left with a sense of purpose she hadn’t anticipated. She had been given a new face to present to the world—and now, perhaps, she had the strength to face whatever came next.
Micah finally stood up, his usual air of control surrounding him. “We’re done here, Miss Roth. Let’s go. There are still things we need to discuss.”
Sadie nodded, her eyes briefly meeting his once more. She didn’t say anything, but a silent understanding passed between them. No words were needed to express the weight of what she had to do next. It was time for her to stop hiding and start taking charge of her life, with all the strength that this new look—and new mindset—gave her.
