Chapter_14
As Sadie and Mia made their way out of the mall, the bodyguard stayed in the background, his eyes scanning the crowd to ensure their safety. He noticed the slight, almost imperceptible distance Sadie kept from the others, her focus entirely on her daughter. It was clear that Sadie wasn’t just a mother; she was a woman who had learned to move with quiet grace through the world, always alert, always protective.
Micah’s words lingered in the air like a forgotten melody. “She’s like a delightful little princess…” Andrew’s voice had been light, teasing almost, but the way Micah had softened his usual demeanor had left a mark. It was rare for him to show such tenderness, especially toward someone so young.
The bodyguard continued to observe, his curiosity piqued by the brief encounter between Micah and Mia. Something about it felt… different.
Meanwhile, in the Rolls-Royce Phantom, Micah wiped the last of the bird feathers from his jacket with an air of quiet resolve. His mind was still swirling with images of the little girl, the way her defiant gaze had softened his anger, the way her innocent, yet fierce protection of her pet had shaken him. He was used to dealing with hard, calculated people, not children.
He glanced at Andrew, who was unusually quiet.
“Keep your eyes peeled. I don’t trust this situation,” Micah muttered, a rare edge to his voice. “There’s more to that family than meets the eye.”
Andrew nodded, still processing the change he’d seen in his boss. He had worked alongside Micah for years, and in that time, he had witnessed the man’s ruthlessness and ice-cold demeanor toward everyone, even those closest to him. But for the first time in a long while, Andrew felt a shift in the air—a subtle change he couldn’t quite pinpoint.
“Yes, sir,” Andrew replied. “I’ll make sure to keep an eye on things.”
As the car drove off, a quiet tension filled the space between them. Micah’s thoughts were elsewhere, focused on the unexpected encounter with the little girl, and the lingering feeling that this was only the beginning of something much more complicated.
Back at the mall, Sadie had just finished her shopping. She sighed in relief as they made their way to the exit, still processing the strange events of the day. Her thoughts returned to Mia’s words. “But that man, he didn’t hurt Coco…” A small part of Sadie was unsettled by the encounter. Was it coincidence, or was there more to that man than she had realized? She couldn’t shake the image of his piercing eyes, as cold as they had been.
“Let’s go home, sweetheart,” Sadie murmured, trying to shake off the unease. “We’ve had enough excitement for one day.”
Mia nodded, still clutching Coco tightly, her mind still wrapped around the strange, intimidating man and the odd sense of calm he had shown after the little bird’s antics.
As they left the mall, unaware of the set of eyes that had watched their every move, the stage was set for a new chapter in their lives—one that would intertwine their fates with a powerful man from the world Sadie had long since left behind.
