Micah raised an eyebrow at Sadie’s bold demand, clearly unfazed by her anger and determination. The tension in the room was palpable, the air thick with hostility and unspoken challenges. He took a slow sip of his drink, his eyes never leaving her.
“Five months?” he repeated, his voice calm, almost amused. “You think you can just walk in here and demand that I hand over my entire income for the next five months? You’ve got guts, I’ll give you that.”
Sadie’s fists clenched at her sides, the frustration building up again. She didn’t care how confident or smug he looked. She was desperate, and her babies needed this money. She had no other option but to make him pay for what he’d done.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I’m asking for,” she said firmly, refusing to back down. “And you’re going to give it to me. I’ll make sure everyone knows what kind of man you are if you refuse.”
Micah leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing slightly as if evaluating her. For a moment, there was silence, and Sadie’s heart raced, wondering whether he would agree or dismiss her demand as if she were nothing more than a fleeting inconvenience.
Finally, he put his glass down and stood up, his imposing figure towering over her. “You’re playing a dangerous game, Sadie,” he said, his voice low and controlled. “You really think you can push me around like this? Do you have any idea who you’re dealing with?”
Sadie stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest. She wasn’t going to let him intimidate her. “I’m not playing any games. I want what’s mine. And if you think you can keep living your life without consequences for the way you’ve treated me, you’re wrong.”
Micah took a step toward her, his presence overwhelming. “You want compensation? Fine. But don’t think for a second that I’ll just roll over and give you what you want without consequences of my own.”
Sadie’s breath caught in her throat. She didn’t back down, but she was starting to realize just how dangerous Micah could be. She’d been angry, seeking revenge, but now the situation was starting to feel more like a power struggle. And she had no idea just how much power he wielded.
“Fine,” Sadie said, her voice steady despite the uncertainty creeping into her mind. “You’ll give me the money. And if you don’t, I’ll make sure everyone knows what kind of man you really are.”
Micah smirked, his eyes flashing with a mix of amusement and something darker. “You’re not nearly as in control of this situation as you think you are, Sadie. But I’ll play along—for now. I’ll think about it. But don’t mistake this for a win.”
He turned away, seemingly uninterested in the rest of the conversation. Sadie stood there, her heart still racing as she realized she might have just opened a door she couldn’t close.
