Chapter_12
Nathan strutted back to the play area with Coco perched on his hand, a small smirk playing on his lips as he soaked in the attention from the onlookers. He loved the spotlight, and with the parrot as his companion, it was hard not to be noticed. His mischievous eyes sparkled as he walked past a group of admiring parents.
Brenda spotted him from across the room and called out, “Nathan, where did you go? What are you doing over there?”
Nathan casually strolled up to her, holding Coco up for her to see. “Just helping someone,” he said, his tone nonchalant but with a glint of excitement. He didn’t mention the wounded man in the utility room or the blood he had seen; there was no need to worry Brenda, not when everything was fine in his world. He knew she’d just scold him if she knew what he had stumbled upon.
Brenda gave him a skeptical look. “Helping someone, huh? You sure you’re not getting into trouble?” she teased, trying to hide her concern.
“Just making the world a better place,” Nathan shrugged with an innocent grin.
Meanwhile, Sadie continued her shopping spree, her attention caught by the sudden appearance of the VIC Group CEO. She felt an odd pull in her chest, as though she’d seen him before, but couldn’t place where. He was taller than most men, with an aura of authority that made people step aside as he walked. His sharp features were framed by the impeccably tailored suit, and though he was surrounded by a team of bodyguards, he walked with a quiet, commanding presence.
Suddenly, their eyes met across the store. It was brief—just a passing glance—but something in that moment struck Sadie. It was as if time slowed down for a heartbeat, and then he looked away, disappearing behind his bodyguards into the restaurant.
“Who was that?” Sadie muttered under her breath, her mind racing. The group of women around her were still gossiping about him, but she didn’t want to listen to their idle chatter anymore. She had a strong feeling that she knew who that man was—she just couldn’t place it yet.
She turned back to her shopping, but the encounter had left her unsettled. Something about the VIC Group CEO seemed too familiar. Could it be connected to Micah? The thought sent a ripple of unease through her.
After picking up the last of the clothes she needed, Sadie quickly made her way to the checkout, thoughts swirling. Her phone buzzed again, snapping her out of her reverie. It was Micah.
Micah: [The night’s just beginning. Stay sharp.]
She felt a shiver run down her spine as she read the message. What did he mean by that? Was he warning her, or just playing another game?
