Chapter_7
Sadie’s heart was pounding with a mix of fury and heartbreak as she lunged at Micah, her body trembling with raw emotion. She had been pushed to the edge for far too long, and now everything—the betrayal, the humiliation, the pain—came crashing down in a flood of rage.
Micah’s grip was firm as he effortlessly held her wrist, his cold eyes piercing through her like he was dissecting her every move. When she attempted to claw at him again, he didn’t flinch, his mask of indifference never cracking.
“Let me go, you bastard!” Sadie screamed, struggling against him.
“You’re angry,” Micah said coolly, his voice laced with a quiet power that sent a shiver down her spine. “I get it. But attacking me won’t change a damn thing.”
Sadie froze, his words cutting through her haze of rage. “Attacking me won’t change a damn thing.” It was as though he was dismissing her, dismissing everything she had been through.
Her chest tightened as the memories flooded her mind once again—the painful months after that night, the loss of her father, the scorn from her family, the unrelenting weight of raising three kids alone. And here he was, the man who had been part of her undoing, standing before her like nothing had ever happened.
“Do you even realize the consequences of what you did to me?” she spat, her eyes narrowing. “You ruined my life. You made me fall into this hell, and now you think you can just walk away from it all?”
Micah’s expression remained unchanged, his gaze unwavering as he looked down at her with an air of detached amusement. “You think it was only me?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous. “You think I’m the reason your life is the way it is?”
Sadie’s breath hitched in her throat. He doesn’t even take responsibility. He’s just like everyone else—passing the blame.
“You don’t know what it’s like!” Sadie’s voice cracked, her frustration spilling out in a sob. “My father is dead. I was left alone to raise my children with no money, no family to support me. And you think you can just make me forget all that pain?”
Micah stared at her for a long moment, his gaze unreadable. Then, with a swift motion, he released her wrist, letting her stumble back. “I didn’t make you do anything, Sadie,” he said, his voice more measured now. “You were the one who decided to run from your past. Don’t you dare blame me for your choices.”
Sadie stood there, stunned, her body still shaking from the force of her emotions. It was as though all the anger and helplessness she had been holding onto for years had been ripped open, leaving her raw and exposed.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. The silence was thick, heavy with the weight of everything unsaid.
Finally, Sadie found her voice again, her words coming out in a sharp whisper. “I will never forgive you for what you did. But I won’t let you control my life anymore. I’ve been to hell, Micah, but I’m not going back there because of you.”
Micah’s dark eyes flickered with something—recognition, perhaps? Or was it something else entirely? He said nothing, only watched as Sadie turned and walked out of the room, leaving him behind, still standing in the shadows.
