Chapter_59
Sadie stood frozen, her mind racing with the revelation. Samuel had been behind the accident in the parking lot. The sudden realization hit her like a punch to the gut. She had never suspected him before, but now everything made sense. The neatly arranged cargo boxes, the accident that almost killed her, and Samuel’s anger when he’d been transferred—it all pointed to him.
Her heart raced as she leaned against the wall, trying to make sense of the situation. How could he have done that? The memory of the cargo container falling flashed before her eyes, the weight of it all making her feel sick to her stomach. If it weren’t for Ronan, she could have been seriously injured—or worse.
As she stood there in shock, the voices from inside the office continued to echo in her mind.
“Samuel, you thought you could get away with it, didn’t you?” Andrew’s voice was cold, his words laced with disdain.
“Please, Mr. Clemens, I… I was desperate. I didn’t know what else to do. I couldn’t let it go… not after everything that happened!” Samuel’s voice cracked in desperation.
But Micah’s voice, sharp and commanding, cut through the air. “You should’ve thought about that before you tried to destroy the surveillance footage and hurt one of my employees.”
Sadie winced at the mention of her, the weight of the situation pressing down on her. It wasn’t just Samuel who had wronged her—it was the whole chain of events that had led up to this moment.
After a brief silence, Micah spoke again, his tone uncompromising. “You’ve gone too far. I’ve had enough of your threats. Get him out of my sight, Andrew.”
Sadie could hear the sound of footsteps, followed by the door to the office opening. She quickly stepped back, trying to remain unnoticed. The last thing she wanted was to be caught eavesdropping, but she couldn’t pull herself away from the scene. Samuel’s fate was now sealed, and all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place.
As she moved down the hallway, the weight of the chip in her pocket felt heavier than ever. It was clear that Micah was capable of going to extreme lengths to protect the VIC Group and those he cared about. She knew she couldn’t delay any longer. She had to return the chip to him before the situation spiraled any further out of control.
But just as she was about to turn the corner, a voice stopped her in her tracks. “Sadie.”
It was Finley.
Sadie turned around, forcing a smile despite the turbulence she felt inside. “Oh, hey, Finley.”
Finley raised an eyebrow, her gaze lingering on Sadie for a moment. “You look… pale. Are you okay?”
Sadie quickly nodded, hoping to mask her unease. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little tired.”
Finley gave her a knowing look, but didn’t press further. “Well, I’m heading back to my desk. Just wanted to make sure you’re alright.”
“Thanks, Finley. I’ll be fine.”
As Finley walked away, Sadie felt her anxiety return in full force. She had to act now—there was no turning back. Micah’s world was changing, and so was hers.
With one last glance at the hallway, Sadie hurried toward Micah’s office, her heart pounding. This was it. She had no idea what consequences awaited her, but she knew she had to return the chip and face whatever came next.
