Chapter_18
Sadie could feel the heat rise in her chest as the scene escalated. Micah, who seemed to exude an air of mystery and power, was now the center of attention, and she wasn’t ready to relinquish her hold on him—especially not to the three tipsy, overbearing women who were eyeing him like a prize. But there was something else at play here, a flicker of curiosity and maybe even a sense of competition sparking within her.
When she kissed Micah again, it wasn’t just about claiming him—it was a power move, one that made her feel oddly exhilarated. Her hand lingered on his neck, fingers brushing the cool skin there as the women’s harsh whispers only seemed to fuel her fire.
“Get lost,” she snapped, her voice sharp, but her body pressed even closer to Micah’s, daring them to challenge her. “He’s not your type anyway.”
Micah’s eyes glinted with amusement, the corner of his lips twitching upward as he let out a low chuckle, his gaze shifting from Sadie to the women. He wasn’t as resistant to the attention as he let on, and there was something in his expression—something predatory—that made Sadie’s heart race even faster.
“Not your type?” one of the women sneered, clearly not backing down. “We’ll see about that.”
Sadie kept her ground, the situation becoming more intense by the second. She wasn’t going to let them intimidate her, and if anything, the competition made her even more determined. “You should leave. This isn’t your scene anymore.”
She pulled Micah closer, her lips brushing his ear as she whispered, “Stay close, okay? Just for a little while longer.”
Micah, his breath warm against her neck, responded with a quiet murmur that made her shiver. “You’re really enjoying this, aren’t you?”
Sadie pulled back slightly to look him in the eyes, her heart thudding harder in her chest. There was no going back now—something between them had shifted, something unspoken but undeniably real.
The women, sensing the growing tension, weren’t giving up without a fight. One of them leaned forward, tossing more cash onto the table with a defiant grin. “You can’t just buy him, honey. He’s not a toy.”
Sadie met her gaze, unwavering. “I’m not buying him. I’m making sure he’s treated well. Something none of you would understand.”
Micah raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. His lips parted as if to say something, but Sadie beat him to it. She wasn’t going to let this drag on any longer. With a flick of her wrist, she gave the women one last look, her tone final, “This is where you walk away.”
For a moment, the room seemed to hold its breath. Then, in the blink of an eye, the women huffed in frustration and stormed out, leaving Sadie and Micah in a tense silence.
The door clicked shut behind them, and for the first time in what felt like hours, the air cleared. Sadie’s pulse was still racing, and she couldn’t quite tell if she was relieved or if she wanted more of that dangerous thrill.
Micah leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable. “You have a way of making things interesting, Sadie.”
Her mind was still reeling from the rush of adrenaline, but she held his gaze steadily. “You’re not so bad yourself.”
The moment stretched between them, the boundaries of their roles blurring just a little more. Neither of them said anything for a while. It wasn’t necessary. The electric charge in the air said everything.
