Chapter_22
Sadie’s heart skipped a beat as Micah’s fingers brushed against her skin while retrieving his phone. The close proximity, the tension in the air—it all made her feel as though she were caught in a whirlwind. Her body remained rigid, still in his grip, the shock of the situation keeping her frozen.
Micah, with his sharp eyes, glanced at the phone in his hand. Without saying a word, he turned and began walking towards the door, his expression unreadable. As he passed Samuel, who was still pressed against the wall, panting and trembling, Micah didn’t even spare him a glance.
Samuel’s voice trembled, weak and desperate. “Mr. Clemens… please, don’t do this! You can’t—”
“Shut up.” Micah’s voice was icy, like the steel of a blade. He didn’t stop walking, his focus solely on the phone in his hand. He walked straight out of the room, leaving Andrew to deal with Samuel.
Sadie stood there, still processing what had just happened. She hadn’t expected Micah to intervene—let alone come to her aid like that. A mix of emotions swirled within her: confusion, gratitude, and fear. She hadn’t even had the chance to thank him or explain what had happened.
For a moment, the air felt heavy, like she was trapped in the wake of what had just transpired. Her thoughts were a blur, racing to catch up with the reality of the situation. Micah had been so cold, so commanding… and yet, his actions, though ruthless, had been a kind of protection. But what did it all mean?
As she stood there, her breath shaky from the whirlwind of emotions, she suddenly realized she was alone. The door clicked behind her, and the sounds of footsteps faded as Micah left the building.
Her mind kept replaying the moments in the locker room—the way he had stepped in, the way he had defended her, the way his body had pressed so dangerously close to hers. But then there was the question that lingered: Why had he done it? Was it out of some sense of duty? Or was there something more?
Sadie took a deep breath, trying to steady her thoughts. She didn’t have time to dwell on it now. There was still too much to sort out, too much uncertainty swirling around her.
Slowly, she grabbed her clothes and began to dry herself off, her hands trembling as she worked. Whatever the reason, Micah had acted decisively, and it was a small relief that she wasn’t facing this alone.
But as she finished, she couldn’t help but wonder how this would change things between her and Micah. He had saved her, but it had come with a cold, unsettling edge. She had no idea where this strange relationship was heading, but one thing was for sure: she was no longer just a passive observer in his world.
And with that thought, Sadie knew her life had just taken an unexpected turn.
