Chapter_60
Sadie’s vision blurred with pain, her body trembling as she felt the cold steel of the knife pressed against her neck. The blood was flowing faster now, her skin growing clammy and pale. Her heartbeat seemed to echo in her ears, the world around her narrowing into a tunnel of fear and desperation. Every breath she took felt harder, each second drawing her closer to the edge of unconsciousness.
“Sadie!” Finley cried, her voice strained with worry, but there was nothing she could do. Andrew stood frozen, unable to make a move as Samuel continued to hold Sadie hostage.
Micah’s eyes locked onto the scene, his gaze colder than the steel that threatened to end Sadie’s life. His face was unreadable, but there was a fire burning in his eyes, a storm of fury that only he seemed to control.
“You think you can make deals with me?” Micah’s voice was dangerously calm, each word cutting through the tension like a blade. “You don’t know who you’re dealing with, Samuel.”
Samuel’s grip tightened on the knife, but his hands were shaking now, a nervous fear creeping into his eyes as he realized the weight of his situation. Micah’s presence seemed to grow stronger, suffocating the room with an oppressive aura of power.
“You’ve already done enough damage, and now you’re trying to bargain with me over her life?” Micah continued, his tone lethal. “I don’t negotiate with criminals.”
Suddenly, in one swift motion, Micah lunged forward, his bodyguards reacting almost instantly. Before Samuel could react, two of them grabbed his arms, twisting them behind his back and forcing him to release Sadie. The knife clattered to the ground, its threat fading in an instant.
Sadie, her legs weak from the pain, collapsed to the floor as soon as she was freed, her body giving way under the strain. She gasped for air, her vision swimming, but she could still make out the faint outline of Micah standing over her.
“Get her to medical,” Micah ordered, his voice sharp and commanding. His gaze never left Sadie as he knelt beside her, reaching out to gently support her.
Sadie’s head swam, her chest rising and falling in shallow breaths. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t even hold herself upright as the world around her spun. The pain was overwhelming, but she felt something else—something warm—when Micah’s touch steadied her.
“You’re safe now,” he murmured softly, but his eyes betrayed his fury, flashing with a promise of consequences for Samuel. The bodyguards restrained Samuel, dragging him away with brutal efficiency.
As Sadie’s vision cleared just enough, she looked up at Micah, her heart racing, her thoughts a jumbled mess of fear, gratitude, and confusion. She tried to speak, but her voice came out weak, barely a whisper.
“Thank you,” she managed, her breath hitching in her throat as she looked into his eyes—eyes that were cold and calculating, but also filled with something more protective, something deeper that made her feel both comforted and terrified all at once.
“Don’t thank me yet,” Micah replied, his voice low and dangerous, though there was a softness in it when he looked at her. “We need to get you to safety first.”
As the bodyguards took charge of Samuel and Andrew began barking orders, Micah helped Sadie stand, his arm around her waist providing what little support she had left. He didn’t let go as they moved toward the elevator, and Sadie felt the weight of the moment settle over her.
This was only the beginning.
