Chapter_75
Sadie’s mind raced as she walked briskly towards her home. The sudden invitation to the charity event made her feel like a deer caught in headlights. What was Micah thinking? Why now? She had never thought of him in that way, but his recent actions were starting to make her feel uncomfortable—and yet, she couldn’t deny the intrigue that his attention stirred in her. It wasn’t just about the charity event, it was the way he treated her, the unexpected kindness, the way he’d gone out of his way to ensure she was cared for after the incident at the villa.
But Sadie had her own priorities. Her children needed her, and she couldn’t let anything—especially Micah’s sudden interest—interfere with that. She hadn’t been able to shake the feeling that she was walking a fine line, balancing the responsibilities of her family while navigating a growing complexity in her relationship with him.
As she reached her apartment building, her phone buzzed with a message from Dahlia: “I’ll see you tomorrow at 3. Mr. Clemens is looking forward to seeing you there.”
Sadie exhaled slowly, shaking her head. She didn’t have the luxury of ignoring Micah’s invitation. Whether she liked it or not, this event seemed to hold more significance than she had originally thought. The thought of seeing Micah in such a public setting stirred something in her—something she wasn’t sure how to label.
Inside her apartment, she locked the door behind her and immediately headed for the children’s room. The sound of their laughter filled the space, easing some of the tension in her chest. They were everything to her, the reason she fought so hard every day. They had no idea about the drama unfolding in her life, nor did she want them to.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, she called them over and hugged them tightly. As she kissed the top of their heads, she whispered, “I love you, my little ones.”
Her thoughts drifted to the conversation she’d had with Felipe earlier. There was a lingering unease, a sense that there were still questions left unanswered about her father’s death. But for now, her focus had to be on her children—and the charity event.
She knew that she had to be careful with Micah. He was too powerful, too unpredictable, and too enigmatic for her to ignore his influence. But would she allow herself to get caught up in whatever game he was playing? Would it mean compromising her principles, or could she use this opportunity to her advantage?
The doorbell rang, pulling her from her thoughts. She opened it to find Dahlia standing in the hallway with a bag in hand.
“Miss Roth,” Dahlia said, a smile playing at the corner of her lips. “Here’s the evening gown Mr. Clemens requested. I’ve also prepared a few accessories for you to choose from. Shall we get started?”
Sadie hesitated for a moment before nodding. She wasn’t one to be easily swayed, but the night ahead seemed inevitable. “Alright. Let’s get it over with.”
