Chapter_35
Sadie was momentarily stunned, her phone held tightly in her hand as she looked up to see who had intervened. The voice had been unmistakable, laced with authority and a touch of fury. A man’s figure stood before her, tall and commanding, his presence filling the room.
It was Ronan.
He stepped forward, his cold eyes never leaving the principal, his hand still resting protectively on Sadie’s shoulder as he turned to face her. “Are you alright?” His voice was low, but there was no mistaking the sharpness in it.
Sadie stood frozen for a moment, her mind racing. Seeing him here, after everything, after the years of separation, filled her with a strange mix of emotions. Anger, confusion, and a twisted sense of something else. She wasn’t sure if she was relieved or furious to see him—maybe both.
But before she could gather her thoughts, the principal sputtered, her face pale. “Mr. Potter, what… what are you doing here?” She took a step back, clearly rattled by his sudden appearance.
“I was just about to speak with my children,” Ronan said, his gaze flicking briefly to Sadie, before he turned back to the principal. “And it seems I’ve arrived just in time to see how things are being handled around here.”
The principal hesitated, the weight of his words pressing down on her. She knew who Ronan was—his name carried significant weight. “Mr. Potter, we were just—”
“Just what? About to make a deal to sweep this under the rug?” Ronan’s voice was ice-cold now, and it was clear he wasn’t interested in pleasantries. “The matter is simple. My son and your student were involved in an incident. And it will be handled fairly, as it should have been from the start.”
The principal opened her mouth to protest, but the teacher intervened once again, trying to calm the situation. “Please, Mr. Potter, let’s just discuss this quietly. We can resolve this without escalating things further.”
Ronan turned his eyes to the teacher, who flinched under his stare. “This has gone beyond discussion. My children have been wronged, and I’m not going to stand by while they are treated like this. You will retrieve the surveillance footage. You will issue a public apology to my family, and Mrs. Potter and Billy will apologize as well. If not, I will make sure this gets handled in a way you will regret.”
Sadie glanced up at him, her anger still simmering, but also a strange sense of relief. She hadn’t expected him to step in, especially after everything that had happened between them. But there was something about the way he stood there, his presence firm and unwavering, that made her feel like things might just go the way they should—fairly.
“You’re threatening us?” The principal’s voice trembled, but Ronan’s gaze was unwavering.
“I’m not threatening anyone,” Ronan replied, his tone sharp, “I’m simply telling you how it’s going to be. Do what’s right. Or I will make sure everyone knows exactly what’s been happening behind closed doors at this school.”
The room was tense, the principal now thoroughly rattled, and the teacher standing to the side, unsure of how to proceed. Ronan didn’t back down. He wasn’t done yet. “You will fix this. Or I’ll make sure the world knows about the school’s mishandling of the situation. Your reputation, your job—it’s all on the line now.”
Sadie, still processing what had just unfolded, took a deep breath. “Ronan,” she started, her voice surprisingly steady, “this isn’t just about power. It’s about what’s right. We’ll make sure Mia and the boys are treated fairly, but we can’t let anyone push us around.”
Ronan’s gaze softened slightly, though there was still fire in his eyes. “You’re right,” he said quietly. “This isn’t about power—it’s about justice.”
The principal, now pale and sweating, quickly nodded. “I… I will get the footage. And we will issue the apologies.”
Sadie didn’t let her guard down just yet, but she nodded in acknowledgment. “That’s what I thought.”
With that, Ronan moved slightly closer to Sadie, his arm still protectively around her. He looked at the principal one last time. “You’ll hear from me if this doesn’t go according to plan.” His gaze flicked back to Sadie. “Let’s go home.”
Sadie wasn’t sure how she felt about his sudden appearance, but for the moment, she was willing to accept the support he was offering. Together, they walked out of the office, leaving behind the tension and the broken promises of the kindergarten.
As they left, the principal watched them go, knowing that this was far from over, but also understanding the gravity of what had just transpired. The Potters were not to be crossed.
