Wanda blinked in surprise, her heart skipping a beat at Carlisle’s unexpected request. She hadn’t anticipated this. For a moment, she didn’t know how to respond. The playful way he said it left her momentarily flustered, but she quickly recovered.
“Borrow money?” Wanda asked, her voice soft, a little breathless. “How much do you need?”
Carlisle gave her a half-smile, his eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. “About sixty thousand dollars… just a small amount.”
Wanda’s eyes widened. “Sixty thousand?” she repeated, almost in disbelief. “You’re serious?”
Carlisle nodded, the seriousness in his expression betraying the playful tone of his earlier words. “I’ve got a business opportunity, but I don’t have enough capital at the moment.”
Wanda hesitated, her mind racing. She had the money, but lending such a large sum to Carlisle was a big step. She had always admired his ambition, but this request felt different—more personal.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” she asked cautiously, looking at him. “What kind of business opportunity?”
Carlisle looked at her, his gaze steady and sincere. “It’s a game studio project I’m working on. We’re going to need a lot of resources for research and development, and this investment could help turn everything around. I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t confident.”
Wanda studied his face, sensing the determination in his voice. She wasn’t naive, though. This was a lot of money, and trusting Carlisle wasn’t something she took lightly.
After a long pause, she finally spoke. “I believe in you, Carlisle. I do. But this is a huge amount. Are you sure it’s going to pay off?”
Carlisle smiled, squeezing her hand gently. “I won’t let you down, Wanda. You’ve always been there for me, and I’ll make sure this works.”
Wanda glanced out the window, contemplating the decision. Her heart was racing, but something about Carlisle’s confidence made her believe in him. Maybe it was his resolve, or perhaps the trust they had built over time.
“Alright,” she said, her voice steady, though her pulse quickened. “I’ll lend it to you. But I expect regular updates on how things are going, and if this doesn’t work out, we’ll have to come up with a backup plan.”
Carlisle’s eyes lit up with gratitude. “You won’t regret this, Wanda. I promise.”
Wanda smiled softly, her hand still resting in his. “I trust you, Carlisle. Just… don’t make me regret it.”
They shared a moment of quiet understanding before the cab continued down the road, the city lights of Rainville ahead, casting their glow over the path they were about to take together.
