“Then why don’t you stay here while I head to another hotel?” Kelvin suggested, his voice tinged with disappointment, yet his tone remained polite.
Sarah nodded, her smile soft but genuine. “That would be great. Thank you, Kelvin.”
Kelvin was an enigmatic figure in Sarah’s life. Though they weren’t in the same class, she knew of him—he was the top student in Class 3C and served as the class monitor. Whispers around school suggested that his father was a high-ranking executive in a listed company, earning close to one hundred thousand dollars a year. With that kind of money, buying a house in town was a mere drop in the bucket.
Had she known earlier that Kelvin harbored feelings for her, Sarah thought, perhaps she would never have gotten involved with Carlisle. She knew now that there was much more beneath the surface of Kelvin’s polite exterior.
Kelvin reached into his wallet, extracting a crisp one-hundred-dollar bill, which he placed on the counter with deliberate care. “Get her the most luxurious room,” he instructed, his tone firm.
The receptionist took the bill without hesitation and handed over a key. “Room 608,” she said with a nod.
Sarah accepted the key and turned toward the elevator. Before entering, she glanced back at Kelvin and offered a dazzling smile. “Bye, Kelvin! See you tomorrow!” she called sweetly.
Kelvin smiled back, his eyes lingering on her as the elevator door slid shut.
At that moment, Zachary and Wanda arrived at the front desk, their presence instantly catching the attention of the receptionist.
Zachary, with his commanding air, spoke first. “Give me the keys to rooms 908 and 909.”
The receptionist, recognizing him instantly, retrieved two keys from the drawer and handed them over without a second thought.
Kelvin, who had been observing the exchange, was caught off guard when he noticed Wanda standing beside Zachary. His eyes gleamed with a mixture of curiosity and disdain. “Wanda,” he called out mockingly, “you always looked so innocent. Who would have thought you’d be messing around with men…”
Before he could finish, a loud slap echoed through the lobby. Zachary had struck him across the face with no hesitation.
Kelvin staggered back, fury flooding his face. “How dare you hit me!” he shouted, his hands clutching his face in shock.
Thud! Zachary’s boot connected with Kelvin’s chest, sending him crashing to the floor.
“Get up,” Zachary ordered coldly. “You’re in no position to be talking.”
Kelvin scrambled to his feet, his face red with rage. “You’ll regret this. I’m calling the cops. You’ll be arrested for this!”
With a trembling hand, he pulled out his phone, dialing furiously.
The sounds of the commotion reached the ears of the security guards standing watch nearby, who quickly rushed in to investigate.
Kelvin, seething with anger, pointed at Zachary. “Guards! This man hit me! You need to throw him out!”
Zachary glanced at the two security guards with an air of complete indifference. “Get this garbage out of here,” he said, his voice cold.
Kelvin, now desperate, covered his swollen face and screamed, “Do you think you own this hotel? You think you can get me thrown out just because you hit me?”
Zachary’s smirk deepened as he met Kelvin’s defiant stare. Turning his attention to the two security guards, he said casually, “Why don’t you tell him if I own this hotel or not?”
The head of security stepped forward, his voice icy. “He owns this hotel, young man. It’s best if you leave while you can.”
Kelvin’s eyes widened in disbelief. Did he really just insult the owner of this hotel?
“Are you still here?” the guard barked, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Kelvin’s knees went weak, and he scrambled to his feet, stumbling out of the hotel in defeat.
As Zachary walked past him, he gave him a final, contemptuous glance.
With the situation defused, Zachary and Wanda headed toward the elevator, leaving the chaotic scene behind them.
