Carlisle’s expression darkened as he read the group chat. His eyes narrowed at the viciousness of the accusations being thrown at Wanda. He could feel his anger rising, but he knew he had to stay calm and help Wanda through this mess.
He looked at her, her face pale as she listened to the voices of her friends defending her. Wanda’s grip on her phone tightened, and she shot him a quick glance. The hurt in her eyes was unmistakable.
“I’ll handle this,” Carlisle said, his voice low and steady. He quickly typed a message to Keith. “I know what you’re doing. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to slander someone like this. Don’t make me get involved with the authorities.”
Keith didn’t respond immediately, but the message was enough to silence some of the chatter in the group. The more supportive comments started to rise to the surface as classmates began voicing their disbelief.
Wanda leaned in closer, her voice shaky but determined. “Carlisle, this… this photo… it’s not what it looks like. I was with someone, but it wasn’t like that.” She swallowed hard, trying to keep her composure. “I… I don’t know how he got that photo.”
Carlisle placed a reassuring hand on her arm. “I believe you, Wanda. Don’t worry. We’ll clear this up.”
He turned back to the group chat and typed another message: “Everyone, we all know Wanda. She’s not the type of person these rumors make her out to be. Let’s focus on supporting each other, not tearing someone down based on unverified accusations.”
The group chat was momentarily quiet as the messages piled in. More students began to step forward with words of encouragement for Wanda. The girls who had previously defended her continued to rally, and even some of the guys seemed to back off from their initial judgment.
Carlisle’s message had done its part in calming the storm, but it was clear that the damage had been done. Wanda’s reputation had taken a hit, and despite her friends’ efforts, the seed of doubt had already been planted in some minds.
“Thank you for standing up for me,” Wanda whispered, her voice full of gratitude. “I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”
Carlisle gave her a small smile. “You don’t have to thank me. We’re friends, right? I’ll always have your back.”
Just as things began to settle, another message popped up in the group chat from Sarah: “Let’s give Wanda a chance to explain. It’s only fair.”
Wanda took a deep breath, gathering the courage to speak for herself. She typed out a message to the group: “I know this situation looks bad, but I promise you, the rumors aren’t true. I wasn’t involved with anyone like that. I hope you can trust me.” She hit send and sat back, waiting for the responses.
Carlisle leaned back in his chair, silently watching as more comments came flooding in. He knew that while the worst of the storm had passed, it wasn’t over yet. But he also knew that with time, people would come to see Wanda for who she truly was.
Wanda’s determination to clear the air had a powerful impact on her classmates. Although some were still skeptical, others had already started to reconsider their judgment. In time, the truth would come out, and the ones who had been quick to gossip would eventually see the light.
Carlisle stayed close to Wanda throughout the rest of the day, offering support and encouragement. The two of them, now more united than ever, knew that no matter what rumors spread, they would always have each other’s backs.
