Wanda chuckled softly at the situation, finding Phoebe’s insistence amusing. “You really don’t need to worry about it, Phoebe. It’s fine,” she said, still searching through her wallet. “But I guess a half-dollar is nothing to fuss over.”
Phoebe shook her head, still holding the dollar firmly in her hand. “No, I insist. You’re too kind, Wanda. I’ll take it as a token of my gratitude. Next time, I’ll be sure to borrow your phone only when I really need it.”
Wanda smiled, her usual gentle demeanor returning as she finally found the change. “Alright, alright,” she said, handing back the half-dollar. “But don’t worry about it too much, okay? It’s not that big of a deal.”
Phoebe’s face softened as she took the half-dollar and stuffed it into her pocket. “Thank you, Wanda. I won’t forget it.”
At that moment, the classroom door swung open again, and Susan stepped inside, signaling for everyone to get ready. “Alright, everyone, settle down. Let’s get started!”
The energy in the room shifted back to the usual buzz as everyone took their seats. Wanda tucked her phone into her bag, her thoughts drifting momentarily to the group chat drama that had unfolded earlier. Despite the stressful situation, she couldn’t help but feel thankful for the support she had received, especially from Carlisle.
She glanced over at him as he returned to his seat, still focused on the class materials. A small sense of gratitude warmed her chest. He had truly stood by her when it mattered most.
As the class settled into a quiet routine, Wanda refocused her attention. She still had much to process, but for now, she felt a little lighter. The weight of the rumors had lessened, and her friendships felt stronger because of it.
In the back of her mind, though, the mystery of the person on the other end of Carlisle’s MSN messenger lingered. But for now, she would let it rest. She had more pressing things to focus on — like her studies, her future, and the friends who cared for her.
