Just then, Sarah’s phone rang again. It was Kelvin.
She picked up the phone and answered, her voice curious. “Is something wrong, Kelvin?”
On the other end of the line, Kelvin’s voice was muffled, as though he was speaking through clenched teeth. “Sarah, I have some major news!”
Sarah, sensing his discomfort, raised an eyebrow. “What’s going on? Are you eating or something? Your speech is a bit unclear.”
Kelvin, unwilling to admit the obvious—his face was swollen from being punched—mumbled an excuse. “No, it’s just that my gums are a little inflamed.”
Sarah didn’t think much of it, dismissing the oddness of his tone. “Alright. What news?”
Kelvin hesitated, then dropped the bombshell. “Your high school class monitor, Wanda, has a boyfriend!”
“What?” Sarah’s voice shot up in surprise, her heart instantly skipping a beat. Her thoughts immediately turned to Carlisle. “Did you see them?”
Kelvin’s surprise was palpable. “Wait… you already knew about this?”
A wave of discontent washed over Sarah. Have they really gotten together? she thought bitterly. But that couldn’t be right. Carlisle had clearly shown interest in her first, right? She had spent so much time helping him, and Wanda had only tutored him for a month. There was no way Carlisle could be interested in her, not when Sarah had everything going for her—more than Wanda, who was clearly no competition in comparison.
“Her boyfriend owns the hotel you’re staying in!” Kelvin added, his voice dripping with resentment. “Can you believe it? That seemingly innocent Wanda has found herself a sugar daddy.”
Sarah’s face relaxed, as the pieces fell into place. Carlisle couldn’t possibly like Wanda. He’s clearly interested in me, she thought, reassured. But Kelvin’s words stoked a fire within her. She let out a small laugh. No wonder Wanda’s been flaunting her wealth lately.
Kelvin, sensing an opportunity to stir the pot, growled into the phone, “You should share this in the class chat. Let everyone know what she’s really like. She’s been acting like she’s some kind of saint.”
Sarah raised an eyebrow at Kelvin’s suggestion. “Do you have bad blood with Wanda or something?” she asked, her voice cool.
“She just annoys me!” Kelvin huffed, his anger clear in his voice.
Sarah thought for a moment before replying, “Look, I don’t think it’s a good idea to share this news in the group chat. Wanda’s got a lot of supporters in our class. If I did that, they’d probably turn on me.”
Kelvin sighed in frustration. “I guess you’re right. I’ll think of something else.”
Meanwhile, Carlisle and Sean sat in front of the computer, playing The Mystical Journey. Sean was clearly bored, staring at the screen with little enthusiasm. “This game’s so slow. It’s like watching paint dry. I don’t know how you can stand it.”
Carlisle, without missing a beat, shrugged. “If you don’t like it, go play The Legendary Tale then. I’m just trying to understand the market. Don’t think I’m actually enjoying this.”
Sean looked at him, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. “You’re not mad, are you?”
Carlisle, still focused on the screen, gave a blank look. “Mad? Why would I be mad? I’m only playing this to understand the trends. This is a business, not a hobby.”
Sean, however, couldn’t help but observe his friend with growing intrigue. Carlisle’s transformation was hard to ignore. The shift from a carefree, underachieving student to someone so driven and focused was undeniable. And, of course, there was the mystery of his uncanny predictions.
Suddenly, Sean’s gaze softened, and a playful thought crossed his mind. “Carlisle, you’re not some kind of time traveler, are you?”
Carlisle paused mid-action, a knowing smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he turned to Sean. “If I said I am, would you believe me?”
Sean let out a laugh, but there was something in Carlisle’s tone that made him wonder if there was more to his friend than met the eye.
