Sean had just settled into his seat when a thought struck him. His gaze fixed on Carlisle, and he asked with a sudden intensity, “Carl, did you predict that Christine would be in danger that day during the SATs?”
Carlisle nodded without hesitation. “Yup. I knew something would happen.”
Christine’s near-tragedy was based on memories from his past life. As for Lily, her fate had been altered because of him—his psychic abilities had seen her near tragedy and steered him to act.
Sean, now fully convinced of Carlisle’s extraordinary abilities, leaned in closer, his curiosity piqued. “How about the Heavenly Sword in The Legendary Tale? Did you predict that too?”
Carlisle rolled his eyes, feigning irritation. “Do you think I can predict everything with fortune-telling? Getting rare weapons in games is all about luck!”
Sean chuckled. “Doesn’t matter. Having abilities like yours is more than enough!”
Christine, still lost in their conversation, tilted her head in confusion. “What are you guys talking about?”
Lily blinked in surprise, her gaze flicking between the two men. “Wait… did Carlisle save you too, Christine?”
Not wanting to delve too deeply into the topic, Carlisle smiled and quickly changed the subject. “That’s enough for now. Let’s eat before all these delicious dishes get cold!”
The four of them settled into a comfortable rhythm, eating and chatting, their laughter filling the room. It wasn’t until around 10:00 pm that they finally decided to leave.
Before they departed, they packed up the leftovers, giving most of it to Christine and Lily. Sean, a little tipsy from the drinks, seized the chance to ask for Lily’s messenger username. He also insisted on booking a hotel room for the two women, but both of them declined politely. Sean, however, pouted, claiming they were being overly courteous.
Carlisle sighed, sensing the growing tension. “Why don’t you two just stay at a hotel? It’s not safe for young women to stay at a motel.”
Lily’s thoughts lingered on the recent events, a shiver of fear creeping up her spine. She grasped Christine’s arm. “Christine, why don’t I stay with you tonight?”
Christine, understanding Lily’s unease, nodded in agreement. She had her own curiosity about how Carlisle had saved Lily.
With a nod, Sean proceeded to book a double room for the girls and led them to the elevator.
Meanwhile, outside the hotel, Zachary had just parked the car. He was unbuckling his seatbelt when he heard Wanda’s voice, trembling with emotion. “Zac… let’s switch to another hotel.”
Zachary’s brow furrowed in confusion. “What’s wrong with staying at our own hotel? I’ve been driving all day. Can’t you show a little sympathy for me?”
Wanda quietly lowered her head, her face hidden in the shadow of her hair. Tears began to fall, landing softly on her hand.
Zachary’s heart tightened at the sight of her tears. “Oh no… don’t cry. Alright, we’ll go to another hotel…”
Unable to bear seeing Wanda upset, Zachary quickly turned the car around. After an hour of driving, they finally arrived at another chain hotel.
Without a word, Wanda grabbed her luggage from the trunk, her movements stiff and distant. Zachary, feeling a rising concern, hurried after her and grabbed her bag. “Wanda, what’s going on with you?”
He noticed the subtle change in her mood. She had been fine earlier in the day, but now she seemed withdrawn, almost as if something was weighing heavily on her mind.
At the hotel front desk, a man and woman were checking in. The man was dressed in expensive designer clothes, while the woman wore more modest attire.
“There’s only one room left, Sarah. Why don’t we just share it? I’ll sleep on the couch!” the man suggested with a smirk, his eyes glinting mischievously.
Sarah’s cheeks flushed, and she shook her head quickly. “That’s not appropriate, you know. We can’t share a room like that. I’ll just stay at a motel. It may not be great, but the environment’s fine enough, and I’m used to it from high school.”
The man raised an eyebrow but didn’t press the issue further. The atmosphere was tense, with an undercurrent of unspoken words between them.
