Cameron sat at booth number eight, his eyes glued to the chat log he’d exchanged with Carlisle. He had approached Carlisle for money, but with only a faint hope. He never imagined that a stranger—someone he had met only once—would actually agree to help.
Now, with the one thousand dollars in hand, Cameron felt a sense of relief wash over him. His sister was saved.
Behind him, Ivan walked up, patting Cameron on the shoulder. He placed 500 dollars on the table. “This is the money Carlisle asked me to give you.”
Cameron jumped to his feet, his hands trembling as he accepted the money. “Thank you so much, Mr. Sanders!”
Ivan then passed him another 500 dollars. “This is from me. I hope your sister’s surgery goes smoothly.”
Cameron could hardly believe his ears. He had never expected Ivan to contribute as well. Tears welled up in his eyes as he repeatedly thanked him, his voice breaking. “Thank you, Mr. Sanders! Thank you so much!”
Ivan gave a casual wave. “Take care of your sister. Hope to hear good news next time you’re here.”
With tears in his eyes, Cameron rushed out of the internet cafe without even bothering to turn off the computer.
Ivan returned to his seat, but before he could settle in, his phone rang again. It was a call from Steven Ferk, the leader of the Makers of Chaos.
“Mr. Ferk…” Ivan’s heart skipped a beat, anxiety creeping in. Steven Ferk was known to come from an affluent family in Riverland, with a net worth close to ten million dollars.
“The Whisperwind… I’m willing to offer 150 thousand dollars for the Heavenly Sword.”
Ivan’s eyes widened in disbelief. His ideal price had been 130 thousand dollars, yet Steven was now offering 150 thousand.
“What? Is it not enough?” Steven’s voice turned cold.
“No! Not at all. Where are you, Mr. Ferk? I’ll come right over to seal the deal!”
The next day, Wanda woke up early, preparing herself for the day ahead. She made her way toward Zachary’s room and knocked on the door, but there was no response.
“Stupid Zachary,” she muttered, frustration evident in her voice. “He must’ve stayed up all night playing that game again.”
She never understood the allure of The Legendary Tale. Zachary would often play it into the early hours, and it always left her worrying about him, even now as an adult.
Meanwhile, Sean was on his way to the University of Science and Technology with Lily, while Carlisle and Christine took a cab to Riverland University.
As they sat in the backseat, Christine seemed slightly nervous, her cheeks tinged with a soft pink. Since Carlisle had risked his life to save her, she often found herself thinking about him. She didn’t understand why Sarah had rejected someone so outstanding.
An hour later, the cab pulled up to Riverland University. Christine, carrying a large woven bag and a suitcase with missing wheels, stepped out of the car.
Carlisle immediately noticed the suitcase’s condition and offered to help. “Let me take your suitcase. I’ll carry mine.”
“No, it’s okay. I can manage,” Christine insisted, struggling to lift the suitcase.
Carlisle smiled gently, shaking his head. He snatched the suitcase from her hands and switched it with his own.
Christine blushed, a quiet smile forming on her lips as she pulled Carlisle’s suitcase along, following him in silence.
As they approached the school gates, Wanda stepped out of a nearby cab. Sarah, dressed in a white short-sleeve shirt, mini-shorts, and oversized sunglasses, followed closely behind, her long legs drawing the attention of passing students. She held her chin high, proudly surveying the crowd.
“What a coincidence,” Wanda said with a faint smile as she spotted Sarah.
Sarah’s lips curled into a knowing grin as she caught up to Wanda. Thinking about the juicy gossip Kelvin had shared with her the previous night, she teased, “So, Wanda, how long have you been with that man?”
