Sarah’s chat box was full of brief, direct messages. She had a way of communicating that was both casual and sharp.
“Hey, Carl. Are you busy with all that stuff today?” she had written earlier.
Carlisle typed back quickly, “Yeah, just getting settled in. What about you?”
“I’m good. Just hanging out,” Sarah’s response was casual, but the lingering tone made it clear she wanted to chat more.
Carlisle paused for a moment before typing, “So, what’s up with you? You seem a bit distant lately.”
There was a brief pause before Sarah replied. “Nothing much, just… thinking. You know how it is.”
Carlisle could tell Sarah was holding something back, but he wasn’t sure what. She had always been a bit enigmatic, keeping things close to her chest.
“Well, if you ever want to talk, I’m here,” he replied, hoping it would open the door for her to share more.
Sarah’s response was slow to come, but when it did, it was short and to the point: “Thanks, Carl. I’ll be alright.”
Feeling the conversation was winding down, he sent a quick “Take care” before moving on to Sienna’s chat.
Sienna had been more straightforward with him in the past, and tonight was no different.
“Carlisle, I’ve been thinking about what you said earlier,” Sienna’s message read.
Carlisle raised an eyebrow as he began typing. “Which part?”
“The part about not wasting time and going after what we really want. I’m starting to feel like maybe I’ve been holding myself back too much,” Sienna replied.
Carlisle smiled to himself. “I’m glad to hear that. You’ve got a lot of potential. Don’t sell yourself short.”
“Thanks. I’m trying to figure out what comes next for me,” she responded thoughtfully. “Maybe we can catch up tomorrow and talk about it more?”
“Definitely. I’d like that,” he said, feeling a small sense of satisfaction. It wasn’t just the girls who were on his mind; his own growth mattered too, and hearing from people like Sienna and Wanda reminded him of the kind of future he wanted to build.
Carlisle closed his phone and leaned back, his thoughts drifting to the future ahead of him. He had a lot to do, and people to look after. As he thought about the dreams that had been shared earlier, he felt a renewed sense of purpose.
Tomorrow was another day to make things happen.
