Chapter_74
Vivienne couldn’t hide the surprise in her eyes when she saw the woman standing next to Charlotte. It was Clara’s attendant, the same one who had been with her during the incident at Tranquil Estates. The recognition was mutual; Clara’s attendant’s face mirrored Vivienne’s surprise.
“Vivienne!” she exclaimed, clearly taken aback.
Vivienne gave a polite but distant nod, a polite smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “Yes, that’s me.”
The attendant looked just as astonished. “What are you doing here?”
Charlotte, who had been watching the exchange, seemed puzzled. “Mom, do you two know each other?” She turned to her mother, Mrs. Redwood, who had been silent up until now.
Vivienne raised an eyebrow. “Your mom?” she asked, still absorbing the situation.
“Yes,” Charlotte answered brightly. “This is my mom, Mrs. Redwood. I was just telling her about you, Vivienne. You’re the one who treated Isolde, right? And helped Grandma Clara too.”
Mrs. Redwood, who had been standing a bit farther back, now stepped forward. She looked at Vivienne with an air of gratitude mixed with curiosity. “So you’re the one Charlotte always talks about on the phone. What a small world! Not only have you helped Charlotte with her studies, but you’ve also saved my mother-in-law’s life. We owe you so much.”
Vivienne smiled politely, although she felt a little uncomfortable with all the praise. “You’re too kind,” she replied, her voice calm and professional. “I was just doing what anyone in my position would do.”
Charlotte was thrilled. “I’m so glad you two know each other. This will make everything easier.” She looked from Vivienne to her mother and back, clearly pleased by the coincidence.
Mrs. Redwood nodded with a smile, but there was a deep sense of relief in her voice. “I’ve heard a lot about you, Vivienne. You really do seem like someone we can trust.”
Vivienne didn’t know how to respond, so she simply nodded, her thoughts returning to the task at hand. The focus now needed to shift to the elderly woman in the hospital room.
“Let’s go see your grandmother,” Vivienne said, pushing aside any lingering confusion.
Charlotte led the way down the sterile hallway to a private room. Inside, Vivienne was met with the sight of Evelyn Redwood, her grandmother, lying in a hospital bed. The elderly woman’s fragile form seemed barely able to lift its weight. Her skin was pale, her eyes dull and tired. Vivienne quickly surveyed the medical charts resting on the small table beside the bed, noting the numerous issues: chronic heart conditions, respiratory struggles, and a general decline in strength.
“This is my grandmother,” Charlotte said softly, her voice laced with worry. “She’s been getting worse for the past few weeks. The doctors have tried everything, but nothing seems to work. I was hoping you could help her.”
Vivienne’s eyes softened as she approached the bed, studying Evelyn’s frail condition. She understood immediately. Chronic illnesses like this required careful treatment and a holistic approach. But it would take time, something the family might not have in abundance.
“I can help,” Vivienne replied, her tone firm yet gentle. “But it won’t be a quick fix. We’ll need to reassess her treatment plan entirely.”
Charlotte’s eyes widened with hope, but Mrs. Redwood’s face remained guarded. “What do you mean by reassess?” she asked cautiously.
Vivienne didn’t mince words. “Her current treatment isn’t enough. She needs a new approach—one that addresses not just the symptoms but also builds up her strength. We’ll have to adjust her medication, diet, and overall care. I’ll also suggest some treatments that might help improve her condition and keep her comfortable.”
Mrs. Redwood nodded, clearly relieved that someone was finally offering a solution. “Please, Vivienne. We’ll do whatever it takes.”
“I’ll prepare a detailed treatment plan,” Vivienne said as she scribbled some notes on her tablet. “But I’ll need your full cooperation to make sure she follows the regimen exactly as prescribed. Her health depends on it.”
Charlotte, still holding onto a thread of worry, nodded. “Of course. Whatever she needs, we’ll get it for her.”
Vivienne gave a quick look at Mrs. Redwood. “And I will need your help, too. It’s not just about the medicine; we need to focus on her emotional well-being as well.”
Mrs. Redwood looked at her grandmother, her face softening with emotion. “I understand. We’ll do everything we can to support her. I can’t thank you enough.”
After finalizing the treatment plan and reviewing Evelyn’s records once more, Vivienne instructed Charlotte to arrange for the necessary medication and treatments. She then turned to Mrs. Redwood. “I’ll check in regularly, but it’s essential that we stay on top of this from the start.”
Before leaving, Vivienne paused at the door, her mind still working through the possibilities. Why did Clara’s attendant bring me here? she thought, a slight suspicion lingering in the back of her mind. It was too coincidental.
With that lingering thought, Vivienne made her exit, leaving Mrs. Redwood and Charlotte to begin the next phase of Evelyn’s treatment. The whole situation felt a bit too neatly aligned—too orchestrated.
Meanwhile, Percival, Leopold, and the others were still at the amusement park, completely unaware of Vivienne’s current situation.
As Vivienne returned to the cab, her mind remained focused on her work. But there was no denying the uneasy feeling she couldn’t shake.
