Chapter_15
Matthew’s voice was light and almost playful, though Vivienne could hear the curiosity in his tone. “Imperial Blossom? That’s quite the prestigious place. It’s hard to get in, as you said. What’s the kid’s name?”
Vivienne leaned back against her chair, tapping her fingers on the edge of the desk. “Thaddeus Hawthorn,” she said, her voice calm, yet there was a certain weight in her words. “I need him enrolled there, no matter what it takes.”
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Vivienne could almost hear Matthew’s wheels turning. “I’ll see what I can do. I’m not promising anything, but… I can certainly pull a few strings.”
Vivienne’s lips curled into a small, satisfied smile. “That’s all I’m asking for. Just make sure it’s done quietly. No need for anyone to know how this happened.”
“Understood,” Matthew replied with a chuckle. “Leave it to me, Mystic Mistress.”
She hung up, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. This would take care of one problem for Thaddeus, at least. She hoped that the kindness she’d shown him would be enough to help him heal from the trauma he’d suffered today.
Vivienne turned her thoughts back to the events that had transpired at the kindergarten. Beatrice’s involvement was troubling, but at least the truth had come out. The principal and the posh lady would face the consequences of their actions, and Beatrice’s manipulative tactics would no longer have the power to harm her family.
She knew, though, that Beatrice would not give up so easily. The woman had proven herself relentless in her pursuit of control over Vivienne’s life. And now that she had crossed the line with Thaddeus, there was no telling how far Beatrice would go to get what she wanted.
But for now, Vivienne pushed those thoughts aside. She had a little brother to protect, and she would ensure that no one else would use him as a pawn in their twisted games. She could handle whatever came next—after all, she’d been through much worse.
As she glanced at the clock, the familiar sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway. It was Dorian, walking toward her room. She straightened up as he knocked gently before entering.
“Everything alright?” he asked, a concerned look on his face as he took in Vivienne’s pensive expression.
She gave him a reassuring smile. “Yeah, everything’s fine. Just taking care of a few things.”
Dorian nodded, clearly relieved. “Good. I’ve been thinking… it’s hard to believe that Beatrice would go this far. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, considering what she’s done to you before.”
Vivienne’s smile faltered for just a moment, but she quickly masked it. “We all have our battles, Dorian. But I won’t let her hurt Thaddeus. Not anymore.”
He seemed to hesitate for a moment before speaking again. “You’ve done a lot for Thaddeus today. And for Cordelia and me too. I don’t know how we can ever repay you.”
Vivienne glanced up at him, her gaze unwavering. “You don’t need to repay me. We’re family now, Dorian. And family looks out for each other.”
Dorian met her gaze, his expression softening. “I’m starting to believe that. I didn’t really understand before, but now… I think I’m starting to see what that really means.”
Vivienne nodded slowly, feeling the weight of his words. For a moment, there was a silence between them, comfortable yet unspoken. She knew that Dorian was starting to trust her more, and in return, she would continue to prove that she could be there for him and his family, no matter what.
“Is Thaddeus feeling better?” Vivienne asked, breaking the silence.
Dorian smiled, a hint of pride in his eyes. “He’s doing better. Still a bit shaken, but I think he’ll be alright. Thanks to you.”
Vivienne stood, heading toward the door. “I’ll check on him in a little while. I’m glad he’s okay. But remember, Dorian, there’s still a lot we need to figure out—especially with Beatrice. She’s not going to stop, and we need to be ready for whatever she throws our way next.”
Dorian’s expression hardened. “I know. But with you on our side, I feel like we can handle whatever comes.”
Vivienne gave him a small, knowing smile. “We will. Together.”
And as she closed the door behind her, Vivienne felt a surge of determination. No matter how much Beatrice schemed, she wouldn’t let her break the bonds they were forming. With her family behind her, she could face anything.
