Chapter_70
The atmosphere in the assembly hall was thick with tension after Gabriel Lockwood’s public scolding. Vivienne stood at the front, her posture calm and unwavering, as the officials scrambled to rectify the situation. The whispers among the students and teachers grew louder, the drama of the day hanging heavy over the school.
Lysander, who had been tense throughout the ordeal, was now visibly relieved. He made his way over to Vivienne, his usual composed demeanor cracking slightly as he murmured, “I can’t believe you handled that so easily.”
Vivienne gave him a half-smile, her voice steady. “I wasn’t about to let them embarrass me in front of everyone. Plus, I had a feeling they wouldn’t dare escalate it after I called Mr. Jason.”
“Mr. Jason…?” Lysander’s brow furrowed, still processing the name. “Do you know him personally?”
Vivienne nodded, not elaborating. “We’ve worked together before.” She paused for a moment before adding, “But that’s not the point. What’s important is that they tried to ruin my reputation without even doing their homework. That’s what frustrates me the most.”
Lysander’s eyes flickered to the officials, who were still recovering from the fallout. Gabriel Lockwood, the lead official, was standing off to the side, looking mortified as he spoke with his now-infuriated boss on the phone. The entire situation had turned chaotic.
“Vivienne,” Lysander said quietly, pulling her aside, “I’m sorry this happened. I should have made sure your information was public, but I didn’t think it would ever come to this. I didn’t expect someone to come after you like this.”
Vivienne shrugged, her expression unreadable. “It’s not your fault, Lysander. But now you know why I prefer to keep a low profile.”
Before Lysander could respond, a voice cut through the murmur of the crowd. “Vivienne, are you alright?” Charlotte Redwood, who had been sitting in the audience, walked up, her usual composed expression replaced by genuine concern.
Vivienne nodded, offering a reassuring smile. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. This is just a minor inconvenience.”
Charlotte raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. “A minor inconvenience? They nearly made a scene of it. How can you be so calm about this?”
Vivienne gave a soft laugh. “Calmness is a survival skill. Trust me, I’ve dealt with worse.”
Charlotte looked at her with newfound admiration. “You really are something else, Vivienne.”
The moment passed quickly as the assembly began to wind down. Gabriel Lockwood, looking utterly defeated, was escorted out by his colleagues, and the other officials left the hall without another word. The principal, trying to salvage what was left of the assembly’s dignity, quickly wrapped things up.
As the students began to leave, a murmur of excitement buzzed in the air. Rumors would certainly spread about Vivienne’s confrontation with the officials, but the general consensus was clear: she was not someone to be trifled with.
Lysander caught Vivienne’s eye one last time as she walked toward the exit with Charlotte. “Are you sure you’re alright?” he asked, still a little concerned.
Vivienne flashed him a quick smile. “I told you, I’m fine. Let’s just focus on making sure Class Eighteen continues its progress.”
As she stepped out into the hallway, Vivienne couldn’t help but feel a wave of satisfaction. She had handled the situation, not just for herself, but for her students and for the reputation of the school. And despite the drama, the day’s events had made one thing clear to her: she was in control of her own narrative, and no one would take that from her.
At the same time, though, her mind was turning. The fact that someone had made such a bold move against her—without properly investigating first—left her with a nagging suspicion. Who had set all of this in motion, and why? This wasn’t just a case of bureaucratic error. There was a deeper play at work here, and Vivienne wasn’t about to let it slide.
