Chapter_24
As Percival wheeled himself away from the group, his mind was occupied with a swirl of conflicting emotions. On one hand, the sight of Isolde’s transformation was a relief he hadn’t realized he was waiting for. On the other, there were too many questions swirling around the mysterious doctor, Vivienne, and her secretive treatment methods. He knew something wasn’t adding up, and he needed answers. But first, he had to make sure Isolde was truly well.
Leopold, still gaping, couldn’t hold back. “Mr. Ellington, you’ve got to admit, you’ve got yourself a real gem here,” he said, half-joking but serious in his tone. “She’s healed Isolde in days, not weeks, not months. That’s unheard of. If I were you, I’d be looking for every excuse to keep her around.”
Percival didn’t respond immediately. His thoughts were too occupied with Vivienne—her skills, her secrecy, and now, her odd reluctance to accept any kind of reward. There was too much that didn’t add up, and he was determined to get to the bottom of it. He had a reputation to uphold and couldn’t afford to let anything slip through the cracks.
Eartha, still nervous from her earlier confrontation, stood silently, awaiting Percival’s next instructions. When he finally spoke, his tone was firm and commanding, like it always was when he was deep in thought.
“Eartha,” Percival began, his gaze unwavering, “make sure everything is prepared for the visit. I want us to leave soon.”
Eartha nodded quickly, grateful that the tension seemed to have eased. She could feel the weight of Percival’s expectations pressing down on her, but now that Isolde’s health had improved so drastically, things seemed to be slowly returning to normal.
As Percival’s gaze flicked back to Isolde, who was still beaming with joy from her newfound beauty, a thought crossed his mind. Why had Vivienne done this? What was her real reason for helping Isolde? He needed to find answers.
With a sharp exhale, Percival motioned to Thomas and Leopold. “You two, prepare for the visit. We leave in an hour.”
Thomas gave a quick nod, not questioning the urgency in Percival’s tone, while Leopold shot a look at Isolde, who was still bouncing with excitement.
“Hey, don’t go getting too ahead of yourself. We still have to figure out who’s behind all this magic,” Leopold teased, though he knew Percival was serious. The whole situation felt like something out of a fairytale—except that Percival didn’t believe in magic. He believed in answers.
As Isolde continued to smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement, Percival wheeled himself to the door, still lost in his thoughts. He had a plan now—one that would take him straight to Vivienne. But what would he find when he got there?
It seemed like the story of Vivienne Hawthorn was only just beginning.
