Chapter_72
Vivienne stood back as Clara’s breathing stabilized, watching the elderly woman slowly regain consciousness. The murmurs of the crowd around her grew louder, but she remained focused, making sure the treatment took hold. Clara’s color was returning, and the panicked woman who had been kneeling beside her was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Thaddeus, who had been standing beside Vivienne, his eyes wide with awe, looked up at her. “You really saved her, Sis. You’re like a superhero!”
Vivienne offered him a soft smile. “Not a superhero, just someone who knows how to help when it’s needed.” She turned to Clara’s daughter, who was still kneeling, tears in her eyes, grateful beyond words. “She’s going to be fine, but you should still get her checked by a professional doctor, just in case.”
The woman nodded eagerly, still not fully understanding how Vivienne had worked such a miracle. “Thank you… Thank you so much.”
Vivienne didn’t need the praise, but it was clear the woman was overwhelmed with gratitude. She patted Thaddeus’ head and said, “Let’s get out of here, okay? We don’t want to miss your amusement park day.”
Thaddeus, still beaming, nodded and ran ahead toward the entrance to the amusement park. Vivienne followed, but as she did, she noticed the crowd was still murmuring. Some people were now recording videos, their whispers of awe and skepticism blending into a single hum. It was clear this incident wasn’t going to be forgotten anytime soon.
The crowd parted as Vivienne and Thaddeus made their way toward the gates. As they reached the entrance, a voice called out from behind her.
“Vivienne!”
Vivienne turned, slightly surprised to see Isolde running toward her, with Leopold and Thomas in tow. Isolde’s face was flushed from the excitement, and she was almost out of breath as she approached.
“I didn’t expect you to really wait at the entrance! How’s Thaddeus doing? And—what happened here?” Isolde asked, her eyes flicking from Vivienne to the still-gathering crowd.
Vivienne shrugged lightly, trying to downplay the whole thing. “Just a little emergency. Thaddeus is fine now. We’re going to enjoy the day.”
Isolde looked impressed but also a bit concerned. “You didn’t want to get involved with the whole crowd, did you? I know you don’t like attention, Vivienne.”
Vivienne gave her a small smile. “I’m fine. Let’s not worry about that. It’s just something I had to do.”
“Well, if you say so,” Isolde replied, still eyeing the group of people chatting animatedly about what had just happened. “I hope you’re not getting too much attention because of this. You know how people love to twist things.”
“Trust me, it’s fine,” Vivienne said, trying to reassure her. “Let’s focus on enjoying the day. We’re here to have fun.”
Thaddeus tugged at Vivienne’s sleeve, eager to get going. “Can we go now, Sis?”
Vivienne laughed and nodded, her gaze shifting briefly to Isolde before she smiled warmly. “Lead the way, Thaddeus.”
As the group moved toward the park’s entrance, Vivienne couldn’t help but feel a slight shift in the air. Something had changed, something small but significant. For the first time, she felt like people were starting to notice her for more than just her connections or her status. She wasn’t just the adopted daughter of the Hawthorn family, or the woman who had brought in Mr. James’ team. She was someone with skills, someone who could stand out on her own.
That thought lingered with her as they entered the amusement park, the sounds of children laughing and rides whirring around them. For a moment, Vivienne allowed herself to forget the complicated dynamics and the constant expectations. Today was for fun. Today, she would enjoy this time with Thaddeus, Isolde, and the others.
