Chapter_76
The tension was thick in the air, especially as Percival and Leopold made their way to find Vivienne. Everyone was on edge, and the engagement party’s success was now hanging by a thread. Percival’s firm resolve to track Vivienne down only seemed to fuel the unease surrounding her absence.
Meanwhile, back at the private room, the Hawthorn family was still anxiously waiting. Cecilia’s dissatisfaction was palpable, but Richard’s unwavering support for Vivienne kept the situation from boiling over entirely. The lack of answers only made people more uncomfortable.
As Percival and Leopold drove towards North Shire, the questions surrounding Vivienne’s sudden disappearance swirled in Percival’s mind. Why had she disappeared without a word? What could have happened to make her miss the most important day of her life?
The closer they got to North Shire, the more Percival’s thoughts raced. Was Vivienne in danger? And if she was, who could be behind it?
“Thomas, how are we doing on her location?” Percival asked, breaking the silence.
“She’s at an abandoned warehouse near the outskirts of North Shire. Looks like she’s been there for a while,” Thomas responded, his voice tinged with urgency. “But there’s no sign of struggle. Just strange that she would be there.”
Percival’s heart skipped a beat. The warehouse wasn’t far from where Vivienne was known to have family ties, but this was far from a place anyone would expect her to be, especially on such an important day.
“We need to move fast. No time to waste,” Percival said, his voice sharp with determination.
As they neared the warehouse, Percival’s worry grew. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something more was going on, something darker than he had anticipated. Was it sabotage? Was someone trying to send a message to Vivienne or her family?
Leopold, usually calm and composed, looked just as anxious. “What do you think is going on, Percival? This doesn’t feel right.”
Percival gripped the steering wheel tighter. “I’m not sure, but we’ll get to the bottom of it.”
They pulled up to the warehouse, the eerie silence pressing in on them. Percival and Leopold stepped out of the car, their eyes scanning the area, waiting for any sign of Vivienne.
Inside, the dim light from a single overhead bulb flickered, casting long shadows across the dusty floor. As they moved forward, Percival’s heart nearly stopped when he saw her. Vivienne was sitting against the far wall, her eyes closed, looking drained and disoriented.
“Vivienne!” Percival shouted, rushing to her side.
She opened her eyes, looking surprised but also somewhat relieved. “Percival? You found me…”
Leopold knelt down beside her, concern written all over his face. “Are you alright? What happened? Why didn’t you show up at the party?”
Vivienne struggled to sit up, clearly exhausted. “I didn’t… I didn’t know what to do. I’ve been trying to find the truth about something… something important. But I got distracted. And now I’m just… lost.”
The cryptic nature of her words left Percival uneasy. There was more to the story than she was letting on.
