Chapter_52
The two men’s eyes widened as the reality of their situation began to sink in. They had expected to be interrogated, maybe beaten, but this… this was something far more unsettling. The sight of Alexander standing before them, exuding a dangerous calm, made their fear grow tenfold. The men glanced at each other, their breaths quick and shallow, but neither dared to speak.
Alexander’s smile remained, though it no longer held any warmth. His eyes were cold, calculating. He leaned in closer, the dagger glinting in his hand as he traced it lightly over the edge of one man’s cheek. “Do you think you’ll be walking out of here?” he asked, his voice low and almost melodic.
The men swallowed nervously. They had heard of Alexander’s reputation, of course. Everyone had. But this—this was a level of intimidation they hadn’t fully understood until now. The presence of the animals, the sheer power of the moment, made them feel as though they were prey in a hunter’s den.
“We… we didn’t mean to cross you, sir,” one of them muttered, voice trembling.
Alexander’s lips curled into a cold grin. “Didn’t mean to, huh? And yet, here you are, making my life more difficult.” He stood up straight again, letting the dagger fall harmlessly at his side, though the threat still hung heavy in the air. “You know, men like you, they think they can get away with anything. But there’s a price to be paid for every misstep.”
The second man, desperate to salvage whatever remained of his dignity, tried to speak up. “We didn’t know who she was, we swear. We just… followed the orders. We didn’t—”
“Enough!” Alexander snapped, cutting him off. His gaze turned even colder, harder. “I don’t care who you were hired by, or what your intentions were. You crossed a line, and now you’ll answer for it.” He looked at Kyle, who stood quietly in the background, watching the whole scene unfold with a practiced indifference.
Kyle gave a slight nod, acknowledging Alexander’s decision. “Should we take care of them now?” he asked, his voice casual despite the severity of the situation.
Alexander turned back to the men, who were now visibly shaking, their previous bravado entirely gone. He raised an eyebrow, a slow, cruel smile creeping across his face. “No. I have something else in mind for you.”
The men exchanged confused glances, and Alexander could see the flicker of dread in their eyes as they tried to process his words.
“Get them out of here,” Alexander ordered. “Let’s see if a little time with my… friends will jog their memories.”
The gangsters were roughly hauled to their feet by Kyle’s men, their legs trembling as they were led out of the villa’s backdoor, the sounds of the barking dogs and howling wolves growing louder with every step.
Alexander stood there, watching them leave, his expression unreadable. He didn’t speak for a moment, letting the tension hang in the air. Finally, he turned to Kyle. “Make sure they understand the consequences of crossing me,” he said quietly.
Kyle nodded, knowing full well that the men’s fate had been sealed the moment they’d dared to involve themselves with Quinn. “Understood, boss,” he replied, a faint glint of admiration in his eyes for the way Alexander handled things.
After a long pause, Alexander glanced back at the house, his mind already moving to the next matter at hand. There was still a long road ahead, and Quinn’s situation was far from resolved.
“You know what to do,” he said, his voice hardening once more.
Kyle gave another nod before he walked away to carry out the next part of their plan. Alexander stood alone for a moment, the weight of everything pressing down on him. It was a dangerous game they were playing, and he wasn’t about to let anyone—least of all Quinn—be a casualty of it.
The moment he had with her earlier had stirred something deep within him. She wasn’t just another pawn in his world. She was something more, something he needed to protect—though he would never admit that aloud. Not yet.
But the time was coming when he would have to face the truth of what he felt for her. And when that time came, there would be no turning back.
