Chapter_49
Quinn blinked several times, her mind still groggy from the remnants of her dream. The harsh light she now faced felt foreign, jarring against the warmth of her past memories. She slowly sat up, the chill of the stone steps beneath her sending a shiver through her body. The tears that had earlier welled up in her eyes had dried, but the ache in her chest remained.
Her stomach throbbed with discomfort as she clutched it protectively. Quinn inhaled deeply, trying to steady herself, but the weight of the day—of her decisions, of the struggle ahead—seemed almost too heavy to carry.
She had always thought that with time, she’d be able to make things right. But nothing ever seemed to go according to plan. She could feel the uncertainty creeping up around her like a cold fog, threatening to swallow her whole.
And then, there was Alexander. His presence loomed over her, even when he wasn’t physically there. Every time she thought she might escape the emotional turmoil he brought into her life, it reared its ugly head again, knocking her back down. Her love for him, tangled in with her longing for a different life, seemed impossible to escape.
Quinn wiped her eyes, attempting to clear her thoughts. She had to move forward. For her child, for herself, and for whatever semblance of a future she could piece together. No matter how lost or alone she felt, there was still the faintest hope flickering within her.
With trembling hands, she pushed herself to her feet, her legs unsteady as she wobbled toward the road. Her mind raced with what little resources she had left—her dwindling strength, the few clothes in her suitcase, and now, her phone, which had been returned to her only a few moments ago. She didn’t know what to do with it or how it could help, but she would try to make something out of it.
Her path was uncertain, but one thing was clear: Quinn had no choice but to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles. She had to fight for her baby. And somehow, she would find a way to make it work.
